I'm looking forward to blogging live from Ariba LIVE on Spend Matters in May. I'm sure that this year's LIVE will be tame relative to the last one in Vegas back in 2001 (which many considered to be one of the last great shin-digs of the B2B era). As I recall, that was right about the time when the modern forces of Ariba (i.e., the voices of reason) were seizing control from the deal-makers and wheeler dealers. But back then, hype still mattered more than anything else.
My, how five years can change everything! Fortunately, the list of speakers for this year's event looks solid, and I'm looking forward to chatting with practitioners and industry experts alike. I've been spared of any speaking or panel duties, so I should have plenty of time to spend at the craps table and the bar. And I'm also planning on drumming up scoop and insight for Spend Matters readers, just in case you were wondering. What's on my mind to investigate this year? The current state of the Ariba Supplier Network (ASN) and supplier management is one topic that I'm curious about. I'm also planning on digging into the latest on compliance, procurement outsourcing, and low cost country sourcing, among other areas. If anyone is going to be at LIVE and wants to connect, let me know. Perhaps we could arrange a Spend Matters happy hour or informal breakfast gathering if there's enough interest.
