Ariba's (NASDAQ: ARBA) SAP NetWeaver certification was probably the worst-kept secret at Ariba LIVE last week. According to the press release issued today, "With the qualification of the Ariba Supplier Connectivity ASC Adapter version 1.0, Ariba can seamlessly link with mySAP™ Business Suite applications and help companies using them reduce the cost and simplify the process of connecting, transacting, and collaborating with their suppliers around the globe." I learned at LIVE that Ariba also has Tibco-based adapters for Oracle and other ERP systems. But I believe this announcement is the biggest integration news to come out of the vendor to date.
Specifically, it shows Ariba's commitment to developing applications to work with existing SAP customers -- including those that have already made the commitment to SAP SRM. What is NetWeaver and how will this new Ariba / NetWeaver adapter work in practice for SAP customers? According to the announcement, "SAP NetWeaver is the integration and application platform that facilitates the integration and alignment of people, information, and business processes across organizational and technological boundaries. By enabling a seamless integration between the SAP NetWeaver platform and its network, Ariba Supplier Connectivity ASC Adapter version 1.0 can increase supplier connectivity for SAP customers with a streamlined, out-of-the-box integrated adapter for the SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure." Stay tuned later this week for significantly more analysis on this news as I head down to SAP Sapphire in Orlando.
