Over on Deal Architect, fellow "Irregulars" blogger Vinnie Mirchandani waxes eloquent about Ariba at 10, describing his own experiences discovering the world of Spend Management in the past decade. Vinnie's parting words are some I strongly agree with: "Take it from a sourcing consultant. Commodity and vendor [i.e., supplier] landscape knowledge trumps integration by a long payback shot. It defined the category a decade ago, it continues to do so." Amen, brother. And as long as it continues to do so, Oracle's and SAP's technology-driven approaches to Spend Management will come up short relative to best of breed providers which focus on integration and the "platform" as a secondary effort after process and knowledge.
