I know it's off subject for this blog, but I had to say how thrilled I was when I saw a few minutes ago that it would appear Drew Faust has been picked to be the next President of Harvard. In both my undergraduate and graduate days at the University of Pennsylvania, Prof. Faust was a great influence on my academic -- and ultimately my professional -- life. She played a key role in teaching me historical methods, and most important, how to research and analyze the past (and now the present). Without the fundamental research and critical thinking skills that I learned from her when she was my undergraduate advisor, I would not have been able to pull off Spend Matters, let alone everything else I've done in my academic and professional career. Harvard might not have picked one of their own, but it looks like they're making a great choice.
