Over on Strategic Sourcing Europe, JP Massin does a good job summarizing some of the findings from Forrester's just published eProcurement Wave. In his post, he quotes Forrester as noting "Ariba remains the Goliath of the market, while competition is getting closer, succeeding in developing differentiators, and sometimes over-exceeding Ariba’s performance on specific functionality, product categories or sectors". Given that I've been digging out from Sapphire, I've not had a chance to read the full report yet, but I look forward to sharing some perspectives on it in the coming weeks. In general, I tend to favor the transparency of Forrester's Wave evaluations relative go Gartner's infamous quadrants, but I always believe that these reports should be taken with a grain of salt since they're inherently based on subjectively chosen and ranked criteria.
Earlier in the week, I had a chance to catch with the author of the report, Andy Bartels, down at SAP Sapphire over dinner. As always, he was a true gentleman. AMR's Mickey North Rizza was also at the table. Fortunately, I don't think Spend Management came up once, as the conversation turned to sailing, flying, and the view from 80 stories up in downtown Atlanta. Now that is what I call a welcome break!
