BMW: Putting Spend Management Into High Gear

Even though this news from Munich (registration and subscription required) won't retroactively credit the many thousands of dollars that I've paid to garages and service centers over the years -- the $1,500 clutch took the cake -- I'm hoping that BMW plans to pass on at least some of the savings they intend to achieve through better Spend Management. According to The Wall Street Journal, expense reduction in "materials, production and development will account for two-thirds of the company's overall target to cut costs by $9 billion by 2012." Let's hope they scrap iDrive while they're at it (which as a purist, I can't stand). As an aside, for those who practice Spend Management in the home, BMW is finally bringing its 1 Series cars to North America. It's about time! Perhaps I'll need to think about handing the keys to the minivan over to my better half!
