In the past, Emptoris has been relatively quiet when it comes to sharing business metrics. But in a presentation from later this morning, Terrence Curley, Senior Vice President of Development, shared a few additional pieces of insight. According to Terrence, Emptoris now has 150+ staff members dedicated to engineering and Q/A. This represents 36% of the employee base (the remaining employees fall into the following categories: 18% sales and marketing, 7% G/A, 20% professional services, 19% customer service and hosting). Emptoris employs no contractors in its R&D and engineering efforts.
As another aside, Emptoris is continuing to offer quarterly maintenance releases for its three primary products: contracts, spend, and sourcing. And Curly attempted to assure the attendees -- a number of whom I know had previous performance related issues with contract management releases from earlier this year and late 2007 -- that Emptoris was currently shipping products at the highest levels of quality in the vendor's history (based on what I presume is a metric based on the number of bug fixes / patches required).
Continuing on the numbers path, Emptoris now claims to have analyzed over $32 trillion in spend across 11 billion transactions. Their full-service sourcing capabilities still leverage what they call the Emptoris "eSourcing Center of Excellence" which now has 65 staff dedicated to event design, data loading, analysis and reporting. The center operates on a 24/7 basis and speaks 10 languages. Based on my calculations, this puts Emptoris behind Ariba but slightly ahead of Trading Partners from a full-service event support headcount perspective. It's also interesting to note that "event management" services are now included at all support levels (for 20, 50 or 100 events depending on the program). Last but not least when it comes to numbers, Emptoris claims 99.93% up-time across their 3 SAS 70 certified data centers.
