Best of Spend Matters: Oracle

1977 saw the birth of two things that would change how we thought forever. One was a company started by Larry Ellison, which would one day evolve into Oracle and use relational-database technology to revolutionize how companies handle data. The other was Star Wars. Given the success of Oracle today, we can forgive Larry Ellison his early days of false promises and poorly tested software in the name of aggressive market penetration. Likewise, the ability to adopt a breathy Darth Vader voice, or taunt a co-worker with a strangled, "Do or do not -- there is no 'try!'" lets us forgive George Lucas for Jar-Jar. You see Spend Matters readers, with great progress comes great forbearance. --Joy
