Over the past eighteen months, we've had the chance to look at Oracle Fusion Procurement on multiple occasions, including briefings and demonstrations at Open World in 2010 and 2011. Since launching Oracle Fusion Applications, Oracle has been relatively quiet as it focuses on delivering and implementing Oracle Fusion Applications successfully with select customers, rather than emphasizing a large-scale marketing push. Oracle Fusion Procurement represents a big leap forward for Oracle not so much in functional capability (at least not yet) relative to Oracle E-Business Suite, but rather in integrated capabilities and design philosophy.
In its current GA release, Oracle Fusion Procurement includes the following modules: Oracle Fusion Purchasing, Oracle Fusion Self-Service Procurement, Oracle Fusion Sourcing, Oracle Fusion Procurement Contracts, Oracle Fusion Supplier Portal and Oracle Fusion Procurement and Spend Analytics. In a series of Spend Matters PRO posts looking at Oracle Fusion Procurement, we'll review and analyze the comparative depth and breadth of the suite in relation to Ariba, SAP, Coupa, IBM/Emptoris and others, as well as explore the customer experience to date. But perhaps even more important, we'll look at the Oracle Fusion Applications usability philosophy and how the design approach is quite different from other suites in the market.
Oracle Fusion Procurement surprised us -- in a positive way. For example, Oracle Fusion Applications, including Fusion Procurement, represent a single suite built on a single data model -- there are no kludged cross-suite integration issues. So many other best of breed applications for sourcing, supplier management and contract management are not "integrated," where Fusion Procurement is part of the same whole; this has significant usability reporting, supplier management and related benefits.
We'll feature some limited commentary on Oracle Fusion Procurement on the regular Spend Matters site later in the summer. But PRO subscribers can gain immediate access our full four-part review of Fusion, which began publishing last week and will continue this week and next. Current Oracle and PeopleSoft customers will get the most mileage out of reading our analysis -- including those currently using Ariba or other source-to-pay solutions (including Oracle and PeopleSoft components) but considering standardizing on an Oracle-centric applications strategy. For this audience, Oracle Fusion Procurement can provide significant flexibility in a deployment and go-forward architecture approach across P2P, contract management, supplier management and/or sourcing (individually or together).
