One potential role for procurement is to become part of the governance process. Procurement can contribute in this area, although that generally needs top management support to establish such a role. Responsibilities include ensuring that suppliers are treated fairly, that some reasonable competitive process is followed, and that conflicts of interest don’t get in the way of the organisation getting the right supplier and the right deal. This is particularly relevant if senior staff might transfer to the successful bidder.
