Conflict Minerals EDGE Live! Jason Busch - May 6, 2013 5:51 AM | Categories: Commentary | Tags: Compliance, Conferences and Events, Conflict Minerals, L1 Spend Matters and MetalMiner are hosting our first event of 2013 today in downtown Chicago: Conflict Minerals EDGE. In considering the conference production textbook, we did pretty much everything wrong: We decided to hold Conflict Minerals EDGE because we were intellectually interested in the topic and saw a pragmatic business need to cover the subject matter live (not because of a pro-forma P&L that showed we’d make a few bucks on this) We came up with the idea less than three months before the event We announced it and went about getting speakers, sponsors and attendees (not necessarily in that order!) only two months in advance We designed the agenda ourselves, from our knowledge of the topic and what our readers want to know - not from interviewing supposedly external subject matter experts and trying to piece together something based on anecdotal and ad-hoc market research We held it during the same time as another industry event (Ariba LIVE) Despite our unorthodox methodology, everything has come together. We’re expecting a total of around 70 attendees today, representing some of the biggest names in manufacturing and related services industries. These attendees join the Spend Matters and MetalMiner team in being interested in staying on top of Conflict Minerals compliance strategies, ranging from overall process design on to the specific types of technologies to use in implementing traceability and visibility approaches – not to mention specific tactics on an individuals-metals basis for compliance. We’re incredibly thankful for the support of our last-minute sponsors of the event: Nucor, BravoSolution and Crowe Horwath. We promise next time to allow greater time for others to sponsor and get involved from the provider and expert communities in our event. Throughout today and this week, we’ll feature live coverage from Conflict Minerals EDGE on Spend Matters, Spend Matters PRO and MetalMiner. Check back soon as we kick off our coverage of the day!
