For a number of reasons we have already explored earlier in this series, Spend Matters believes that a significant acquisition in the vendor management system (VMS) sector is highly likely in the coming quarters. But how will the competitive marketplace help drive this consolidation (if at all) or play a role in it? This marketplace includes MSPs (Tapfin, Allegis, KellyOCG, Agile-1, Randstad, Bartech, etc.) as well as VMS providers (Fieldglass, IQNavigator, Beeline, Provade, Volt/Console, ZeroChaos, etc.) It also includes procurement BPO firms (Accenture, IBM, Procurian, Proxima, Xchanging, etc.) and procurement software suite providers (SAP/Ariba, Oracle, SciQuest, Emptoris/IBM, Zycus, Coupa, BravoSolution, etc.) To answer this question, it is first worth understanding the type of acquisition that is most likely to occur.
