Last week, I outlined the history and business case of SAP’s adventures in the icon-scm product area, ending with the suggestion that perhaps an acquisition of E2open would now make sense – even more sense than before this latest M&A deal. For one, such a combination would give SAP a stronger story for discrete manufacturing relative to Oracle. It’d make use of the icon-scm acquisition, which has its main offices in Karlsruhe (a 30-minute drive to Waldorf), and product that is not only certified and integrated with SAP but also deployed as an RDS (Rapid Deployment Solution) in the SAP SCM solution stack.
