The UK Government has started a review to look into whether the perceived oligopoly of large IT suppliers has had negative consequences for the taxpayer, in terms of their dominance of the government market over the last ten years or more. Last month, the UK government Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announced that it has launched an investigation into the competitiveness of the multi-billion pound government IT market. Currently, the top 20 services providers earn about £10.4bn a year from the UK public sector. But here is the irony…procurement often brings situations like this upon themselves through their own well-meant practices!
