Smithfield Asks Suppliers to Chuck Pig Crates, Velveeta Shortage, B&N Names Michael Huseby as CEO

Smithfield, the world’s largest pork buyer, is asking its suppliers to stop using pig crates for pregnant sows to improve the animals’ living conditions.

Jewel-Osco stores have confirmed a months-long Velveeta shortage. The 32-ounce packages are still on shelves, but the 8-ounce ones have been out of stock since September.

Barnes & Noble has named Michael Huseby, head of the company’s Nook digital division, as its new chief executive.

The Federal Trade Commission charged four weight-loss product companies – Sensa Products, L’Occitane, HCG Diet Direct, and LeanSpa – with fraud for making “unfounded promises.”
