There’s no doubt that high-value supply is the life blood of a business, and sourcing helps provide the cost-effective and high quality nutrition that enables the body (the enterprise) to work at peak performance. As such, you need an efficient heart to help pump that supply to all the parts of the enterprise. This includes red bloods cells for oxygen (i.e., supply assurance); blood platelets for protective clotting (i.e., supply risk/compliance), and white cells to make the body more resilient and adaptive (this helps risk too, but it’s about innovation and continuous improvement). Procurement certainly has a key role as the stomach and the lungs to help process inputs (food to nutrients and air to oxygen).
