As a procurement solutions analyst, you get used to evaluating specific point solutions or capabilities in isolation – most providers have fairly narrow scopes of business. There’s often a bias toward consuming details that can make you overlook or gloss over the fact that Oracle is such an enormous organization. Their product lines immediately centered on procurement come packaged under many labels: EBS (E-Business Suite), Fusion Applications, PeopleSoft, and JDE (JD Edwards). Of course, in addition to those product lines, Oracle has much more up its sleeve – take a look here. As an analyst I am used to being able to summarize, or at least grasp conceptually and explain with relative ease to others what a given best-of-breed provider does for a living. Figuratively speaking, that is. With giants like Oracle – and SAP – this is not so easy, perhaps not even possible.
