Oh dear! October was certainly not a month of mists and mellow fruitfulness (or is that November?) for our stock portfolio. Stock markets had a nervous month after the falls of September, with further falls in the first half of October. However, some confidence returned, and many stocks recovered to finish slightly up on the month. But IT stocks continued to be treated with caution – or worse – and the evidence for that was clear in our portfolio of 21 companies with an interest in the procurement software space. The portfolio lost 3% of its value on the month, and again, it is basically back where we started, just a fraction above its Jan. 1 total value.
