Integrating Cloud P2P Solutions with SAP: Framing the Case For Robust Integration Jason Busch - January 20, 2015 10:02 AM | Categories: Analysis, Cloud, Learning / Research, P2P | Tags: L1, Technology P2P integration has come a long way. Even in the cloud, for that matter. No longer is it necessary to have armies of consultants descend into the depths of the IT dungeon to get an e-procurement module to talk to various SAP instances. The Spend Matters P2P research team including Xavier Olivera, director of P2P research, Jason Busch, founder and managing director, and Thomas Kase, vice president of research, recently teamed up to provide an in-depth look at P2P integration strategies. Not for the superficial faint-of-heart, their analysis, Cloud P2P Deployment: A How-To Guide to SAP and ERP Integration with eProcurement and Beyond, explores specific integration points, strategies and tactics to make cloud procurement solutions talk to on-premise ERP (with Coupa as the use case). As they note in framing the analysis: “Regardless of the level of effort that goes into spend analytics, sourcing, contracting and vendor management, some form of payment will be made at the end of any procurement effort. This payment should, of course, go to the right supplier and for the right goods and services; what we mean by the phrase ‘driving spend under management.’ For mid-size and larger organizations, this inevitably points to the necessity for efficient e-procurement and procure-to-pay (P2P) solutions to work closely with the installed financial structure (most likely ERP systems, like those from Oracle and SAP). Successfully integrating (and maintaining the integration between) these systems is considerably easier than in the past, but still requires careful consideration around which systems to tie together, what data formats to use, processes to follow and how to prepare the human resources involved. But procurement and other business stakeholders should no longer be intimidated by risks that come from ERP systems integration and P2P projects.” In the coming weeks on Spend Matters, we will excerpt a number of highlights from the study. In the meantime, those wanting the integration details can download the full study, Cloud P2P Deployment: A How-To Guide to SAP and ERP Integration with eProcurement and Beyond, and delve into many of the secrets of P2P integration success.
