Afternoon Coffee: More Business Workers Are Traveling This Year, Business Inventories Rise

Business travel is up this year thanks to cheaper gas and other factors. The Global Business Travel Association predicts a total of 492.1 million trips this year, up 2 million from last year.

Business inventories rose in February, according to the Commerce Department. Supplies increased 0.3% from January, more than expected.

US retail sales were also up in March, marking an increase for the first time in 4 months. Yet the jump of 0.9% wasn’t enough to offset weak spending during winter.

Gas spending may increase for Europeans, Russian energy company Gazprom has warned. The company said if Europe tried to set a base price for gas supplies, it will likely be higher than what they are paying now.
