Spend Matters 50/50: Oracle – A Provider to Know in 2015

100 companies - 100 days

Oracle Corporation has perhaps the longest pedigree in the e-procurement arena with its iProcurement self-service procurement application that is part of its Electronic Business Suite (EBS) of integrated applications. Oracle also offers a cloud-based suite of applications known as Oracle Cloud (or “Oracle Fusion”). This SaaS suite is less functionality rich as EBS, but is the “heir apparent” as the application suite that will take Oracle into the future.

Depending on industry, a customer might find relevant functionality across a variety of Oracle applications from these 2 main product suites, with varying levels of integration between them. Oracle is really best suited to firms that are “Oracle Shops” making use of Oracle platform/infrastructure technology in order to support requirements that are not accommodated by the vanilla applications. Oracle has a very well articulated procurement PaaS strategy that is designed to allow Oracle to use the platform to build the SaaS products but to allow customers to use the platform to extend the applications for their unique needs. The execution of this strategy is still a work in progress, but the vision is absolutely the right one.
