Afternoon Coffee: Target Names New Supply Chain Exec, USPS Ramps Up Same-Day Delivery

Target has named John Mulligan, the company's former finance chief, as the new chief operating officer to oversee the retailer’s supply chain. The announcement comes at a time when Target is expecting to invest about $1 billion to revamp its supply chain and technology.

The US Postal Service is rolling out more same-day delivery services in an effort to stay competitive with other delivery companies like FedEx and Amazon. USPS first began testing the same-day delivery service in November 2014 in New York.

About 4 months after Blue Bell Creameries announced a nationwide recall due to listeria contamination, the ice cream maker said it will resume shipping its products to select markets at the end of August.

A group associated with Brookfield Infrastructure Partners will buy Australian port and railroad operator Asciano for $8.8 billion. Brookfield also said it hopes to continue acquiring more ports as seaborne trade is expected to increase.
