Afternoon Coffee: Amazon Launches AWS Database Migration Service, Alibaba Fights Online Counterfeiters

Amazon is reportedly launching its AWS Database Migration Service today, which aims to help companies move their corporate database to the AWS cloud. Amazon announced back in October it was testing the migration service.

Alibaba Founder Jack Ma said the company’s anti-counterfeit team will have access to an unlimited budget and manpower to stop fake products from being sold online in China. The e-commerce company will also not just target counterfeiters on its own site Taobao, but other Chinese sites like JD.com.

U.S. business inventories increased 0.1% in January, the Commerce Department reported. The data shows it is taking businesses longer than expected to reduce stock.

Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka has sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Labor requesting federal authorities investigate hiring practices at the New Jersey port. Baraka said the International Longshoremen's’ Association was hiring mainly white workers despite the large black and Latino populations in the area.
