Table the Trump-Talk: Our 2016 Year-End Procurement Tech Review is Coming

Before you know it, you’ll be sitting around the Thanksgiving table, very likely staring down the prospect of hearing your grandmother and your cousin-once-removed debating How Trump Happened, wishing you had something — anything — else to think about.

Well, how about selecting the right type of procurement technology? (Come on, everyone deserves a Trump break.)

Our Year-End Tech Review

When it comes to procurement and supply chain technology vendor analysis, the Spend Matters analyst team’s body of work — especially this year — is second to none. That’s why, as 2016 draws to a close, it’s our chance to provide procurement practitioners a birds-eye (re)view of some key vendors and their solutions in select categories. (You know, in case you missed it.)

We'll focus on Quick Facts about the companies, some high-level ins and outs of their solution offering, including our analysts' view on not only that, but on the firms' competitive landscape as well.

The first three weeks will break down as follows:

  • S2P / P2P
  • (e-)Sourcing and Supplier Management
  • Risk Management and Spend Analysis/Analytics

Week 1 — The World of 'S2P2P'

As our team has astutely observed:

“Procure-to-pay (P2P) technology providers do not always fit cleanly inside a single box or comparative two-by-two matrix. The solution requirements that support shopping, tactical sourcing, transactional buying, invoicing and related supplier management activities can vary materially based on the underlying type of organization and categories they are designed to support. Procurement organizations can extend generic P2P solutions like Ariba and Coupa to many industries and categories. But specialist vendors can still differentiate in certain areas, even building a business case to sit alongside big name P2P solutions for the same customer.”

Of course, some specialist vendors are making a name for themselves by adding the “S” — as in sourcing — into the acronym and their solutions, and providing full S2P (source-to-pay) capabilities in their suites, of which P2P is one of several components.

The four firms’ solutions that we’ll highlight in Week 1 feature either P2P or S2P front and center, many of them touting valuable add-ons in their attempt to bring their customers the full monty in efficiency and effectiveness. Hence, our uber-acronym, S2P2P.

Final Destination: Spend Matters Almanac

Nearly all of the firms we’ll be highlighting in our 2016 Year-End Review have entries in our Almanac, which is also home to our 50 Providers to Know and 50 Providers to Watch lists.
