Afternoon Coffee: Supply Chain Finance Goes Mainstream, Oracle Acquires API Integration Company

The value of supply chain finance enabled by fintech providers is starting to gain traction is the mainstream press. Taulia and Greensill Capital were recently featured in The Economist, in an article examining how fintech is helping resolve payment tensions between buyers and suppliers.

Oracle Buys Apiary

Software giant Oracle announced Friday it would acquire Apiary, whose APIFlow solution provides the framework and tools for developing application programming interfaces (APIs) that share enterprise services and data, Supply Chain 24/7 reports.

“With Apiary, Oracle will … provide customers advanced capabilities to design and govern API’s, allowing companies to manage the entire API lifecycle and deliver integrated applications,” the company said in a press release.

Wonolo Receives New Investment

Tokyo-based Temp Holdings Co. has committed investment to online staffing firm Wonolo, according to Staffing Industry Analysts. While details of the funding have not been disclosed, the deal represents a continued acknowledgement by major staffing firms — Temp Holdings is the ninth largest in the world — that work intermediation platforms (WIPs) are starting to disrupt the space.

Kristen Stewart Writes Paper on AI

Yep, you read that right: Actress Kristen Stewart, of Twilight fame, has released a research paper on artificial intelligence, Quartz writes. The paper, published yesterday on ArXiv, an online research repository run by Cornell, examines a popular use of machine learning called style transfer.
