Afternoon Coffee: Trudeau and Trump Meet, E2open Merges with Steelwedge

We’ve been writing a lot about how the Trump administration is creating a difficult procurement situation with Mexico, but America’s neighbor to the north is in a precarious position, as well. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is meeting with President Trump in Washington Monday, the Wall Street Journal writes, in what should be the first indication of the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). While Trudeau and Trump may be at odds on several issues (e.g., immigration), they may be able to find common ground in other areas (e.g., the Keystone XL pipeline).

E2open Merges with Steelwedge

Supply chain information network provider E2open announced Monday it would merge with Steelwedge, a company providing sales and operation (S&OP) planning software. The combination delivers the first collaborative sales and operations planning solution that integrates information across multi-enterprise business networks, the companies said in a press release.

McLaren to Build Production Capacity in UK

British supercar maker McLaren is shifting chassis production to the U.K. from Austria to reduce potential exposure tariffs resulting from Brexit, IndustryWeek reports. A new plant in Sheffield, England, will produce lightweight carbon fiber bodies for the luxury vehicles and begin operations in late 2019.

And finally, the costs of the cloud’s rise: A new report from Intel details internal strife within many companies’ IT departments as they struggle to keep up security measures necessary to keep the cloud safe. One statistic that stood out? Trust now outnumbers distrust for public clouds by more than 2-to-1.
