Afternoon Coffee: New Study Identifies Top Sources of Supply Chain Complexity, Ford Touts CSR Achievements

A new study conducted by APICS and Michigan State University addresses the increased complexity of today’s supply chain flow, which supply chain leaders cite as the top challenge they face. According to a press release, the top four sources of complexity supply chain managers cited were accommodating customers; handling the globalization of supply chain processes; managing complex supplier relationships; and balancing the push to omnichannel supply chains with general concerns like technology turnover and mergers.

Ford Named One of the World’s Most Ethical Companies Again

For the eighth consecutive year, automaker Ford was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute. A large part of the award came from supply chain efforts, including the monitoring of human rights and safe working conditions and sourcing conflict-free minerals, the company said in a press release.

WestJet to Automate Contract Management with Jaggaer

Canadian airline WestJet will work with Jaggaer (formerly SciQuest) to manage the automation of its contracts.

"Effective contract management is a team effort," said Robert Bonavito, CEO of Jaggaer. "These days it's not just the legal or finance departments that are involved. All stakeholders need a simple and efficient way to access key information.”

And finally, a forex update: The pound has shed almost a cent against the US dollar in early trading Tuesday, hitting $1.2125, on news that the U.K. is nearing a vote to trigger its official divorce from the European Union.
