New details are emerging about Tesla’s teased electric semi-truck. As Reuters reports, the pending long-haul vehicle will be able to drive autonomously and move in “platoons” that follow a leading vehicle. Tesla is in discussions with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles about scheduling road tests in the near future.

JDI’s Woes

Japan Display is having a tough year. The Apple supplier is slashing nearly 30% of its global workforce and considering a partnership in China or Taiwan, according to the Wall Street Journal. JDI stands to lose more than half of its revenue as Apple switches from liquid display panels to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens, which JDI cannot currently manufacture.

Glencore Rallies

The last eight months have been kinder to Glencore, however. The mining giant posted a 68% leap in profit, to $6.7 billion, in the first half of the year thanks to higher metal prices, Bloomberg reports. Continued interest in the battery market should also boost demand for metals such as cobalt, of which Glencore is the world’s largest miner.

Inventory Numbers

And finally, an economic update: U.S. wholesale inventories increased more than previously reported in June, according to CNBC, up 0.7%. That was the biggest gain in six months.
