Afternoon Coffee: Rolls Royce Warns Brexit Could Disrupt its Supply Chain, Amazon to Sell Medical Devices and Supplies with New Licenses

New border checks that could be put in place in the wake of Brexit could disrupt Rolls Royce’s global supply chain, the company warned Wednesday. As the Independent reports, the new checks could prevent the supply chain from flowing fluidly, one executive said, as well as limit the available talent the company can use to address such issues.

Amazon’s Healthcare Play

The new pharmacy licenses Amazon recently acquired will be used at first to sell medical devices and supplies, according to CNBC. While analysts say Amazon’s entry to the prescription drug supply chain is still possible, the more immediate threat is to medical distribution companies.

Helium Prices

Bulk helium prices are jumping on higher production and distribution costs, with supplier Praxair increasing prices as much as 10%, depending on the region, Industrial Distribution reports. Praxair said it “continues to make investments and enhancements in capacity and the efficiency of its helium operations worldwide” to improve supply reliability.

Inflation News 

And finally, an economic update: An encouraging pickup in inflation metrics and unexpectedly strong retail sales are increasing the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will again raise its benchmark interest rate in December, according to Bloomberg.
