Unilever took a “radical step” on supply chain transparency Tuesday as it became the first consumer goods company to publicly disclose the suppliers and mills it sources palm oil from, Supply Chain Digital reports. The initiative is part of a broader sustainable palm oil sourcing policy the company began in 2013. Unilever said the approach means better visibility of where palm oil comes from, as well as improved capability to more proactively identify issues.

Fried Chicken Disruption

Most of the 900 KFC outlets in the U.K. and Ireland were forced to close Monday due a logistics-related chicken shortage, according to the Associated Press. The company mainly laid blame on its new delivery partner, DHL, which recently took over the KFC contract from Bidveset Logistics, calling the issues “teething problems.”

FourKites Funding

Supply chain visibility platform FourKites announced Wednesday it had raised $35 million in a Series B funding round, according to a press release. The company plans to use the money for geographic and technological expansion of its product, which counts companies including Unilever and AB InBev as users.

“Our goal since day one has been to deliver measurable value for our customers by reimagining the way technology can transform their global supply chains,” said Mathew Elenjickal, FourKites founder and CEO. “This new funding accelerates the pace with which we can develop the next generation of predictive supply chain solutions.”

Eurozone Confidence

And finally, an economic update: Consumer sentiment in the eurozone fell more than expected in February, Reuters reports, after hitting a 17-year high in January. Uncertainty over several looming political issues may be starting to weigh on an otherwise buoyant European economy.
