Afternoon Coffee: Target Cuts Fulfillment Costs; Modelez Nabs New Executive VP, Supply Chain

Target has cut fulfillment costs by 90% for same day offerings.

In the retailer’s first quarter earnings call, Target CEO Brian Cornell said, “when we go from an upstream [distribution center] to some of our same-day fulfilment offerings like Order Pickup and Drive Up, we see a 90% reduction in costs,” according to Supply Chain Dive.

Mondelez appoints new Executive VP for supply chain

Chief Supply Chain Officer of Kimberly-Clark Corp Sandra MacQuillan has been named executive vice-president of Mondelez International, Inc.

She will be taking over from June 10, and will be overseeing the company’s global procurement, manufacturing, engineering, customer service and logistics groups.

JPMorgan parts with OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma

Reuters reports that JPMorgan Chase & Co had broken off relations with Purdue Pharma LP over the OxyContin maker’s alleged role in the U.S. opioid crisis.

Unnamed sources told the news agency that the move may have come because of lawsuits alleging the pharma company had marketed the addictive painkillers while downplaying their abuse.

Ford partners with Agility Robotics for last-mile delivery robot

Ford has teamed up with Agility Robotics to pilot an autonomous delivery robot called Digit.

The robot can carry up to 40 pounds, and can navigate steps — and your porch. Digit will be paired with autonomous delivery vehicles to test feasibility.
