Spend Matters 50/50: Corporate United – A Provider to Know in 2015

Corporate United is one of our 50 Providers to Know. We will be highlighting all 100 companies (50 to Know, 50 to Watch) in our 2015 Spend Matters Almanac over the span of 100 days. All companies are listed alphabetically, and purposely not ranked. Our first 17 will include those that will be at the ISM Conference on May 3 and 4. Corporate United is a great success story in the rise of group purchasing organization (GPO) models outside of healthcare – where the model is more common.

Spend Matters 50/50: Trade Extensions – A Provider to Know

There is hope for changing how we think about sourcing and designing supply chains and supply networks in a world of increasing complexity. And Trade Extensions, whose technology is often used in a narrow manner as a best of breed solutions for logistics sourcing, is perhaps the one provider that is ideally suited to help companies embrace this complexity far beyond just the movement of goods. Indeed, Trade Extensions have an exceptional list of truly radical sourcing customer stories already that will stop seasoned experts dead in their tracks by showing what is possible.

Spend Matters 50/50: SpendHQ – A Provider to Know

Over the years, ISG has run sourcing analytics and services in a consultative fashion and along the way built a SaaS-delivered software solution (a.k.a. toolset) for spend visibility and category management, as well as data optimization services. Originally just for internal use as they worked with clients, this took on a life of its own as some of ISG’s clients expressed interest. It’s a natural step along the path of self-service that many organizations embark on. These days the tool is managed as an independent business – although under the same ownership as ISG.

Spend Matters 50/50: Insight Sourcing Group – A Provider to Know

“When you can’t be bothered to source it on your own” – would be a rather simplistic quip to explain what Insight Sourcing Group does for their customers. The Atlanta-based firm takes a full service and hands-on approach in all sourcing areas. They get their hands dirty analyzing all your spend data and develop a list of sourcing projects that will deliver the best bottom line bang. Over the years they even developed their own spend analytics solution for this purpose – and spun it out into a separate business entity, SpendHQ.

Spend Matters 50/50: Corporate United – A Provider to Know

After a second hiatus, we're back to covering providers who made our 50/50 list this year! Now, on to Corporate United, a provider to know. Some providers in the procurement services market can be very complex and difficult to understand – and then there are group purchasing organizations (GPOs) like Corporate United. Buying consortia have been around for hundreds of years (think agricultural co-operatives), and the core value proposition remains unchanged: there is buying power in numbers.

Spend Matters 50/50: Seal Software – A Provider to Watch

In our Spend Matters 50/50 we included Seal Software, the contract management company without an actual contract lifecycle management tool. As you will see, this is a strength and not a shortcoming. We wrote about the company in 2012, and back then they had both a contract lifecycle management solution and a contract discovery one. Since then, Seal has sold off their CLM tool to focus entirely on their unique approach to contract discovery and analytics. Why did they get rid of it, you wonder? Well, competing with your channel partners is never a good idea, and Seal has partnered up with a long list of prominent CLM and related solution providers – chances are that you already use a solution from one of their many partners!

Spend Matters 50/50: BravoSolution – A Provider to Know

The success of BravoSolution in both the private and public sectors (in Europe) is due to specializing in the strategic side of procurement (rather than transactional support and connectivity). It is for their capabilities and expertise in strategic procurement that we’ve included them in the Spend Matters 50/50 "know" list.

Spend Matters 50/50: GXS (OpenText) – A Provider to Know

Within the supplier network sector, there are many providers that like to dismiss EDI as a thing of the past. I can think of only a handful of smaller vendors in the new supplier network and e-invoicing guard are still supporting full-fledged direct materials connectivity with suppliers (and they’re doing so on a limited scale, typically without support for complex industry scenarios). The rest are just claiming EDI is dead without even really knowing what they’re taking about. Well, let us proclaim that EDI is not dead – it has changed dramatically. And GXS/OpenText is living proof of the transformation.

Spend Matters 50/50: Sievo – A Provider to Watch

There’s only a handful of technology providers that come along each year that can change the measurement, financial, and process orientation of something as large as a procurement function. But Sievo, whom we included in the Spend Matters 50/50 "watch" list, is one of the few. While the company is still small and has very little presence in North America, it is one of the most important providers in bringing finance and procurement together.

Spend Matters 50/50: IHS – A Provider to Watch

As we continue on with our Spend Matters 50/50 list, we come to IHS, or what we might term the first “market intelligence” company in our coverage. If you’ve not heard of IHS, we suspect you’re not in a business that would consume their commodity and economic forecasts or use their manufacturing and engineering specific information through the IHS GlobalSpec search tool, which enables users to pinpoint specific industrial and related parts, suppliers, and supplier capabilities.

Spend Matters 50/50: HICX Solutions – A Provider to Watch

Every once in a while, you come across a high-growth procurement services provider that has largely flown under the radar (often because they’ve focused on a targeted geography and have not raised outside capital), yet has a tremendous set of capabilities and depth that would truly surprise even the most sophisticated potential customer. HICX Solutions, which we’re excited to include in our 2014 Spend Matters 50/50 list, is one such provider. In their Spend Matters Almanac listing, HICX themselves say that their solutions span “supplier onboarding, supplier master data management, supplier management, supplier risk and performance scorecarding, supplier compliance and supplier cockpit [dashboard].”

Spend Matters 50/50: Iasta – A Provider to Know

Iasta continues to differentiate itself with a sourcing toolset that (while a bit dated on the interface side – as are all the veteran solution players in this sector, mind you!) is as powerful and configurable as ever. The core Iasta sourcing-driven UI is a bit like a Porsche 911 – some love it, others not so much, but it simply does not go out of style and it has a lot of fans that don’t want to see it change.
