Breaking News – “adopt a supplier” scheme for Ministers

The Times reports that 50 of the UK's top firms will get a "hotline" access to UK Ministers.  (The Times has a paywall but you can read more here at the Spectator).

Bosses of companies, including BP and GlaxoSmithKline, will be able to telephone directly to the top of Whitehall departments in new individually tailored relationships with senior ministers who will act as their “buddies”.

This is the new "strategic relations" initiative led by Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint - who used to be Stephen Green, ex-chairman and CEO of HSBC.

It raises some interesting points about fairness in the context of public procurement, and similar issues to those we raised yesterday about the Commercial Interchange scheme, SMEs, incumbent suppliers and so on.

We'll comment more on this next week.
