Coupa to Buy Hiperos – Adds Supply Chain Risk Management to the Suite

You may have heard this morning that business spend management firm Coupa has agreed to yet another acquisition: Hiperos, a third-party risk management provider. This is hot on the heels of the firm’s acquisition of Aquiire in October.

Hiperos, a division of Opus, will give businesses “the advanced technology they need to extensively evaluate the risk of their full supplier base to further protect their brand and bottom line,” the press release says. The cloud-based application adds another string to the Coupa bow – users will be able to manage third-party risk, including that related to information security, bribery and corruption, and new data privacy regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It will be known as Coupa Risk Assess.

We have not yet had a full briefing but we understand it will enable an assessment of suppliers early on (prior to contract) and of the work they have carried out with others. Supply chain risk will be identifiable through gathering comprehensive information on suppliers’ suppliers, to give a full picture so that users can direct spend away from high-risk suppliers.

We don’t yet have a full view of when or how the integration into the Coupa platform will take place, but our own Jason Busch said “Coupa has an established process for marrying acquired companies with their platform and we expect to see the same operational model deployed for Hiperos’s industry leading integrated risk management capabilities.”

No doubt our US analysts will have more on this story in the coming weeks, with an update on performance within the SolutionMap arena. We will refer you to that analysis as it publishes. And for a deep look at the deal and what it means for the industry, they have started to produce a series as part of the Pro subscription offering “Coupa buying Hiperos: Acquisition Facts, Analysis and Insight” - check that out here.
