ex- OGC Chief Nigel Smith honoured in New Year’s list

Congratulations to Nigel Smith, who stepped down from his role as Chief Executive of the UK's Office of Government Commerce in September, on his appointment as Companion of the Order of the Bath in the New Year's Honours list.

Has anyone told him that, under a statute passed in 1589, holders of the CB aren't allowed to smoke, on penalty of banishment from the realm?

(Only joking).

Personally, although I'm pleased for him, I'd rather he was still taking a leading role in UK public sector procurement; as we've said before, he's left a bit of a leadership void there now given Ian Watmore's huge span of responsibility.

Also personal congratulations to Lionel Joyce, who was one of my fellow Commissioners on the Legal Services Commission, and receives a CBE.  Lionel has done so much to help those who need it in the sphere of justice and mental health; he's simply a very good man.

I couldn't see anyone else from the world of procurement and supply chain in the list; but apologies (and congratulations) to anyone else I've missed as well as best wishes to Nigel and Lionel.

And what has Nigel actually achieved more than this:

The mind struggles to think of a more defining moment.
