Real World Procurement Events – Nurturing Talent and Proving Your Value

Don’t forget – next week Guy Allen is speaking in two webinars on November 2nd, at 10am and 4pm UK time. The topic is Nurturing Procurement Talent in the Millennial Era, which he talked about at the live Real World Procurement live session the other day.

We all know that there is a shortage of talent in the procurement profession.  So what can procurement executives do about this? Simply poaching staff from other organisations is not a sustainable solution for the profession as a whole, even if it works for some in the short term. So what can we practically do to attract the best people, motivate, retain and nurture them to become the “stars” and CPOs of the future? And do we need to treat Millennials differently – or are they just like we were at their age (but with better hair)?

It really shouldn’t need me to explain why this is important.  How brilliant you and your team are really doesn’t matter if you can’t prove it. If you don’t show real contribution and value to senior executives, the Board and shareholders, then you have a problem. In reality, procurement functions are as “successful” as their organisation believes them to be, so understanding how to link procurement to organisational strategy and value, track and measure benefits, report and indeed “market” the work of procurement, are essential capabilities if you want to be seen as successful.
