Social Media and Procurement – not to mention Zoella and Tinder

Next week, Thursday the 9th of October to be precise, at 2.30pm in the City of London, I’m speaking at an event run by Oracle and Enrich. It’s a first for me in terms of the topic; Social Media. Or to give the session its full and glorious title, “From Facebook to Supplier Collaboration – how the social media explosion will fundamentally change procurement”.

I’ve got some serious content to discuss of course, around how procurement can and should understand and then use social media principles as well as actual tools to drive business success. I believe we are going to see major developments in areas such as supplier innovation and collaboration driven by these ideas – get on the front foot now and don’t wait for that 23 year old in your team to tell you what you should be doing!

Seriously, why is it so easy to communicate with my friends and so difficult still to get through to the right person at a key supplier who can answer my question? Why can I get hundreds of reviews of my favourite restaurant Gauthier, from well-informed bloggers to totally random Trip Adviser people - but I can’t get the same for my prospective IT outsourced service providers?

But we will have a bit of fun too. So come along and:

  • Test your knowledge of social media tools and applications (yes, I promise we won’t have a live Tinder demo. Unless you want to, of course...)
  • Find out just how 24 year old English rose Zoella makes a very good living in front of the camera!
  • Learn what TPS stands for and why Japan holds the record
  • Revisit the days of Friends Re-united and Bebo...

I’m also very excited about another speaker on the day – Tim Hughes of Oracle. I don’t know him personally but he is a “Twitter superstar”. He has no less than 76,000 followers on his personal Twitter site, Tweeting about IT and marketing and particularly social media issues in that context. As a comparison, @spendmattersuk is one of the most followed procurement Tweeters and we have just hit the 2,500 mark. So I’m really excited about meeting and listening to Tim.

The event is getting booked up quickly, but there are a few places left so register here if you’re interested. And I haven’t even mentioned the drinks and snacks at 5pm once the formal session is finished.
