Spend Matters 50 to Know – organisations to have on your radar

You may already have seen the announcement of our Spend Matters 50 to Know and 50 to Watch on our US site last week, but today we'll cover the 50 to Know and tomorrow the 50 to watch.

As we’ve said before, this is not the ‘best’ firms in the world in the procurement solution providers space. It is not a short-list or a recommendation for any particular purpose.  The way we selected the 50 to Know  was to imagine that we were asked a question by a new CPO – perhaps even someone who had come into the profession from another field:

“Which organisations who supply procurement solutions should I know at least a bit about so I can sound informed if someone asks me why we are / aren’t using them”?

They are the firms who have shaped our solutions provider market place, some for many years, some for not so long but all have had a real impact.  Many are large and / or well-established firms, and there won’t be massive turnover in this list year to year we suspect.

But of course some large firms aren’t on the list if we felt the part of their business that is procurement related is somewhat peripheral for them.  So we debated HP for instance. They still have some procurement related outsourcing activities, but it is hardly part of their core offering these days, and they won’t be front of mind to CPOs looking at outsourcing, we’d suggest compared to Accenture / Procurian, Xchanging, Proxima...  so HP didn’t get included.

And this is independent of who sponsors us, who likes us or doesn't, and as Jason Busch says:

"As such, there’s no cost to “winning.” Who needs another cheesy paperweight engraved with SMAT50 (that would be “Spend Matters Almanac Top 50”) or a sales pitch to sponsor an awards dinner with gross wine and awkward small talk?

You don’t have to give us a thing. In fact, we’re giving everyone who was chosen to be a part of the 50/50 lists a free upgrade (a $499 value) in our new, curated provider directory, Spend Matters Almanac (launching this week). 50/50 members have received an email with instructions for how to submit their listings".

So here we go.

Inclusion in the 2014 50 to Know is meant to indicate to a procurement practitioner, advisor, or consultant that a company is worth knowing or taking a look at. The 50 to Know is not a ranked list. We cover vendor shortlists in given technology, solutions, and service areas in Spend Matters PRO.
