Spend Matters 50 To Know — Corporate United

Following the launch of the Spend Matters 50 to Know and 50 to Watch list, our US site and our colleagues are running through all the providers to give the reasoning behind their inclusion. In the case of Corporate United, there isn't a whole lot to add from our European-centric standpoint. Whilst the firm says it is "the world’s largest virtual organization" (an interesting claim), representing $900 billion of spend, the vast majority of that is US-based customers. We suspect some of those will have offices outside the US, but the focus of Corporate United is clearly on the other side of the Atlantic.

It's interesting that it is mainly in the public sector here in Europe that group purchasing organisations have been successful; why haven't they made real inroads into the private sector in the way Corporate United clearly have in the States?

Anyway, our US site had this to say about the firm:

"Corporate United works with buying member organizations to analyze their spend, assess potential benefits with the agreements, implement the appropriate agreements, and then monitor the contracts and supplier relationships to ensure that both parties are receiving value."

"Based on our discussions with many members, the firm also seems to work hard at providing category management services that a procurement BPO might provide to drive value out of the category rather than merely trying to drive volume and the associated rebate."
