The Spend Matters Almanac of Procurement Providers

When we announced the launch of the Spend Matters Almanac last month, it was amid much excitement; it had been a long time in the making, and many a discussion had been thrashed out before we decided who to include. Even then, all the listings were moderated for content and approval prior to inclusion.

We talked briefly about it here, but now that it’s live -- and its population is definitely kicking -- let’s really give it the kudos it deserves.

The Spend Matters Almanac is not to be tarred with the same brush as a Google-generated laundry list of the top suppliers; it is a humanly considered (not to be confused with humanely, although that too!) set of software firms, outsourcers, data providers, research firms, consultants, and similar organisations that we believe deserve to be on the list.

It categorises organisations that serve the procurement and supply chain market, and, in the words of our US site, “It represents what we would want to have if we were in the shoes of procurement, finance and supply chain organizations attempting to make sense of all the offerings available in the market today.” It really does deliver this, making the decision-making process for procurement executives more straightforward and better informed.

Because the Spend Matters Almanac was created by us and we know we can rely on its contents, we plan to use it ourselves. Just like when you go out for a curry and the waiter is actually from Bangladesh or you go to a Cantonese restaurant and find Chinese people eating there – you know it’s going to be good.

Unlike the procurement ‘supplier directories’ you can download from the internet, the Spend Matters Almanac has some unique features that make it more valuable to business decision making:

  • It structures providers according to a Spend Matters taxonomy, helping you compare like with like.
  • It links all (Free, Basic, and Premium) providers to recent Spend Matters coverage so you can see what we think about the providers.
  • It lets providers own and manage their own listings, so content is always up to date.

  • It offers a ‘free’ level of participation, whereas standard directories can charge a fortune for a basic listing.
