Memorial Day: A Global Trade Perspective

If you're in the United States, Memorial Day weekend brings the official start to summer (though you would not know it from the cold spring in Chicago). On this Memorial Day, in addition to honoring the Veterans of past and current conflicts who fought for freedom and liberty, I'd also like to suggest a debt of thanks we owe the United States Navy, in particular. Why? The US Navy is the most critical link in keeping trade routes open on a global basis -- past, current and future. Sometime in the 21st century, China will most likely have a similar Naval force as well. But until then, it's up to our men in blue to protect the waters that enable global trade and prosperity -- not just for the US, but the rest of the world as well.

That's it from me today. Plan to spend some time with the family.
