Jones Group Closing 170 Stores, Cooper Union to Charge Tuition, Chicago Worker Strike, Pew Report on Wealth Gap

Jones Group, Inc., the parent company of Nine West and Jones New York, announced that it will be closing 170 stores in the U.S. and cutting 8% of its workforce by mid-2014.

New York City’s Cooper Union College has decided to begin charging undergraduates tuition for the first time since the college’s founding in 1859.

Hundreds of fast food and retail workers in Chicago are expected to participate in a strike today in a push for higher wages.

According to a newly released Pew Research Center report, the wealthiest 7% of Americans have seen a 28% rise in net worth from 2009 to 2011, whereas the rest have experienced a 4% drop in wealth.
