E-Sourcing: What’s Changed in the Past Five Years?

We’re knee deep in our e-sourcing deep-dive analysis of over thirty vendors: Thomas has been sitting through 90-minute demonstrations during most waking hours. I’ve been talking with all of the references provided (and some additional ones as well). Pierre, our head of research, is helping us stitch it all together as we all wade through the large RFP we sent out that kicked off the research phase of our analysis.

As part of our touch point last night, Thomas and I were brainstorming what has changed in the market in the past five years. Since both of us practically grew up in the e-sourcing space since 1999 with the rise of Trading Dynamics before Ariba bought it – our CTO, Scott Slone, hails from Trading Dynamics, as a bit of Spend Matters trivia – we thought it would be worthwhile to jot down our thoughts about how the sector has evolved in recent years.
