Cambodia’s Garment Workers on Strike, Late Xmas Deliveries, Online Holiday Shopping Up 16.5%

Cambodia’s garment workers launched a nationwide strike this week, protesting the government’s decision to raise the industry’s minimum wage by 19% to $95 a month, well below the $160 sought by unions.

Delayed Christmas deliveries from both UPS and FedEx had customers disappointed, possibly rehashing bad childhood memories of learning Santa Claus isn’t real.

In related news, online Christmas shopping increased 16.5% this season, helping to push overall holiday sales up 2.3%.

The descriptively named Samurai Startup Island is hoping to bring a much-needed wave of entrepreneurship to Japan.
