Uber has announced steep price cuts of up to 34 percent for its uberX service in 16 of the 24 cities it covers, with Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Orange County seeing the largest discounts.

Low-end retailers such as Family Dollar Stores and Sears reported poor holiday sales.
