Foie Gras Suppliers Battle California’s Ban, Microsoft to Cut Up to 18,000 Jobs

Foie gras suppliers from 13 states are taking California’s ban to the Supreme Court, saying that prohibiting the sale of the fatty liver on the grounds that force feeding ducks and geese is inhumane is “unfair and hurts their businesses.”

Microsoft plans to cut up to 18,000 jobs, or about 14 percent of its work force, over the next year. Most of the jobs eliminated will be from Nokia.

Alibaba has pushed its planned launch of a $20-billion initial public offering to after Labor Day on Sept. 1.

General Motors’ legal department is facing heavy scrutiny in the Senate’s investigation.
