Dollar General Makes New Bid For Family Dollar, Buys Harry & David

Dollar General has topped its rival Dollar Tree’s bid to buy Family Dollar. Dollar General offered Family Dollar $9.1 billion today for the discount store chain.

In other M&A news, will purchase the gourmet food supplier Harry & David for $142.5 million.

Merger and acquisitions in the United Kingdom, however, reached a record low during the first six months of 2014, according to recently released data.

McDonald’s Corp announced it will conduct more, and sometimes surprise, audits of its Chinese suppliers. The fast food chain also wants amp its quality assurance by taking such steps as increasing its video surveillance of its suppliers in China.
