Google’s Member-Based Shopping Service, Apple’s Smart Locks and Problems at Bangladesh Factories

Google is amping up its competition with Amazon as it begins its Google Express shopping service. Google will start charging a $10 per month membership fee for same-day or overnight delivery.

Apple plans to sell a smart lock for front doors. It will be part of a group of products that can connect to Apple’s platform HomeKit.

Western retailers and labor unions found safety hazards at all 1,100 garment plants in Bangladesh they inspected. The group, known as the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, discovered such dangerous conditions at 17 plants, they had to be shut down.

While retailers are preparing for the holiday shopping season, adding employees and putting out advertisements, analysts say it could be a disappointing year for business due to low wage growth and the rising costs of housing, healthcare and other services.
