Germany’s “Smart” Factories, Toyota Takes Top Spot for Car Sales

Germany is on a mission to upgrade its manufacturing plants to “smart” factories - those that are fully automated, Internet-based and do not require human workers.

Toyota has taken the leading spot as the top-selling carmaker during the first three quarters of the year. The Japanese automaker reported record sales of 7.615 million cars.

Apparel companies are looking outside China to source goods. Ethiopia and Myanmar are emerging as countries where fashion brands are producing clothing.

Two Brazilian companies, the Cutrale Group and the Safra Group, will buy banana producer Chiquita Brands International for $680 million.
