Thanksgiving Travel, Black Friday Shopping and Holiday Shipping

Since Thanksgiving is tomorrow, we decided to focus today’s Afternoon Coffee on the busy holiday/shopping weekend. Enjoy! And Happy Turkey Day!

First, while you may think this weekend is the worst time to travel by air, as it has a reputation for being the busiest, airlines say that is not longer the case. Recent “megamergers” have made congestion on planes an ordinary occurrence, and airports experience “Thanksgiving-like” traffic at least once every week.

Americans plan to spend more this weekend than they did last year, according to a recent survey by Deloitte. A lower unemployment rate and cheaper gas prices have boosted consumer confidence and will lead them to spend more at stores this year.

American retailers are even encouraging Chinese shoppers to take part in Black Friday and Thanksgiving weekend retail deals. Despite the fact China does not officially celebrate the holiday, retailers are partnering with Alipay to make US retail goods available for Chinese buyers.

Drones may not be delivering holiday gifts this year. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to release rules regarding commercial drones that place more restrictions on how companies can use them.
